We need to reach a wider audience!

While the API has had 510,148 unique visitors in the last month, the site itself only received 4,821 unique visitors, most people dont even realise that fanart.tv exists and that is where they are getting their images from,

The aim is to get more people involved with the site, and hopefully increasing the image contributions, to that end, please tell your friends about the site, tweet about us, digg us, mention us on your blogs, stumbleupon us, google +1 us, like our facebook page, most of these can be done from the home page.

Another option is to email places like lifehacker and suggest they do an article about us, we need all the help we can get to let people know about the site.

Something old

Ah, the age old (internet wise at any rate) problem of spam.

We had some spam on the site for the first time a couple of weeks ago, we have put some systems in place to hopefully block it, but let us know if you get any.

Something new

Due to popular request we have finally added artist thumbs at 1000x1000px to the music section.

We also have a forum thread where people can make requests for new image types

Also due to popular request you have have noticed you can now browse by alphabet letter in the Music, TV and Movie sections, so if you aren’t sure what you are looking for feel free to have a nose.

Something borrowed

Martijn, the creator of the great XBMC plugin Artwork Downloader, XBMC Team member, and also admin here, has kindly added some python examples to the Movie API page and the TV API page

Something blue

Probably not a category we will be adding but the suggestion brought a smile to my face anyway http://fanart.tv/topic/new-image-types/page/2/#post-927 thanks @jacktyler

Welcome to the new site and the very first fanart.tv blog post.

There have been a lot of changes over the last few months and we have lots more planned so stay tuned.

API
First up, the API has changed considerably, so if you have developed an app that uses our API you will need to update it as soon as possible, failing that the old API will run concurrently for a month or so, so you have plenty of time to make the change.

You can find the documentation for the various APIs here.

In order to use the API you will need an API key, you can get one from here.

Website
As you may have noticed the website has had a facelift.

We hope you like the look of the new site and in the coming months we will be adding new features to improve your experience.

New features:

Download queue – You can now select several images before you download them, they will then be zipped up, given the correct name and put into folders. (still to do)

Vote for your favourite image – Logged in users can vote for their favourite images, the highest rated images are shown first by default in the API

New sections – I have rewritten the site to make it easier to add new sections and image types, with this change we have added the Movie and Game sections to the website.

User functons – We have added buddypress to the site, this enables some new functions for users such as private messaging. (still needs styling properly but functionality should be there)

Season support – We have added season number support to the season thumbs

Language support – We have added language support to the TV and Movie sections

There is still lots to do but we decided it was at a stage where people could start using it while we added the extra bits.
