8 New Image Types

By Kode | | Latest News, Website

Today we have added EIGHT new image types, the most we have ever added in one go before, and in an unprecedented move we have no images available for any of them! With thetvdb having issues with bandwidth (that should be resolved soon) we decided to add banner support here (both season and series) to hopefully help alleviate some of the stress, but as this is fanart.tv we decided to raise the bar a bit to prepare for future sized big screens…. We have kept the aspect ratio the same but changed the image size to 1000 x 185px and …

Movie Review: The Expendables 2

By mizaki | | Reviews

If you missed The Expendables, the basic idea is: Take a load of old actions stars, throw in a few newer ones (for the kids) and make an old school action film with knowing nods to the cheesy elements of the genre. It was mostly a forgettable action romp. In my case, I remember a big explosion on a dock type area and Sly not kissing “the girl” which, was quite a relief. It did alright so why not do it again? There are mostly two ideas for sequels: Expand on the original idea with a new original story in …

xbmcnerds.com donated to fanart.tv

By mad-max | | Latest News, Website

Some of you guys have certainly read our blog article about the current lack of money for running the servers here: http://fanart.tv/2012/07/ideas-for-supporting-the-site-needed/ And so did mad-max, one of the team member of xbmcnerds.com! This is a small German community with around 3000 users which followed the call of mad-max to make a community donation for fanart.tv. They were running this event for 2 weeks and collected from every interested user in their community. At the beginning the expectations were not as high as the real donation. Collecting money for one month server hosting was the goal. The goal was exceeded …

Antony and the Johnsons – Cut the World Review or: Transgenderism and Drowning Raccoons

By pete_the_lion | | Music, Reviews

So I’ve just got back from a trip to Canada, in which I experienced a world similar to the UK, but bigger in many ways. Many of them food related. I’m talking about gigantic waffles covered in maple syrup and a “small” burger that was about the size of my wall clock. I helped a drowning raccoon out of a bin full of water only to be reprimanded for interfering with a pest and so then had to hear it’s plaintive cries as it sat on the step outside waiting for the “vet” to arrive. I’m fairly certain the “vet” …

What is fanart.tv all about

By Martijn | | Website

As some of you may or may not know, Kode runs a site called lockstockmods, though that was before this site took over his life.  Over two years ago, in a small section of the site he started hosting clearlogos for tv shows. That’s where it all started. Soon after the section started rolling and more and more images were hosted and the API became well used. It became obvious that it deserved it’s own domain. Fast forward to the present and that’s where fanart.tv is now. An artwork site dedicated to improve your media-center, by providing a range of …

Movie review: The Raid (Redemption)

By mizaki | | Movies, Reviews

The Raid (Redemption) is an action-cum-martial arts Indonesian film written and directed by Gareth Evans. Staring Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, Donny Alamsyah and Yayan Ruhian. The first and the last also being the fight choreographers. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing some of these names in Hollywood films. In fact, if you check IMDB, you already will. This may be old news to some of you but with a limited release it’s bound to enjoy a good life on disc. If you are less than enamoured with the genre, The Raid makes no attempt to transcend the genre. The …

Movie review: Total Recall 2012

By mizaki | | Reviews

A “re-imagined” version of the Philip K Dick story: “We can remember it for you wholesale”. Well that’s what they say when they don’t want you to compare it to a previous film based on the same story. In this case the 1990 film called Total Recall directed by Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Starship Trooper) and staring Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator, Predator), same name, good start there chaps. When I first heard of this remake, sorry “re-imagining”, I did shout a metaphorical “WHY!?” Then I saw the trailer and was willing to put the first film to the back of my …
